Introduction to Scottish Gaelic - Part 2
Wednesday evenings via Zoom for 10 weeks beginning January 22 through March 26 31, 2025, 6:30pm - 7:30pm eastern time.
This class will continue to work on verbal nouns and talk about what you are doing (eating, working etc.), and will learn the vocative case (ie how to address people by name - yes, a name will change in spelling and pronunciation in this case). We will learn to say that we have something, as well as our first prepositional pronoun (a preposition and pronoun combine to form a new word).
And we will continue to practice speaking to each other in Gaelic as well.
Newcomers are welcome, but some prior Gaelic is required this term. Students should be able to use all 7 pronouns, be familiar with tha, chan eil, a bheil, and nach eil, as well as having a basic understanding of verbal nouns (eg. Tha mi ag obair / I am working).
Class is limited to 10 students.
Cost for 10 x 1 hour classes:
$75 $60 for seniors 65 and over.
$60 students (students will have to show a valid student card at first class)
Payment for all classes is by InterAc on your online banking site to payment@torontogaelic.ca (no password necessary). We regret that we cannot accept payments by PayPal or Credit Card. Arrangements can be made to pay by cheque. Thursday evenings via Zoom for 10 weeks from January 18 through March 20, 2025, 6:30pm-7:30pm eastern time.
New students are welcome. This class is limited to 10 students.
We will continue to work on the irregular verb rach (eg. chaidh, cha deach) and the difference between a-mach and a-muigh. We will be learning - and using – the months of the year. We will work towards adding a second irregular verb and adding the prepositional pronoun with ri, as well as how to describe people and talk about going places with other people. We will continue to develop our speaking skills.

Level 3 Scottish Gaelic
Saturday mornings via Zoom beginning January 18 through March 26, 2025, 10:00am - 11:30am eastern (there will be no class October 12 for Thanksgiving weekend).
We will continue to work on learning - and using – the months of the year and practicing our use of bhithinn and bhiodh (the conditional tense), irregular verbs, and the relative independent future tense. We will add how to say we are standing and sitting etc., and count to 30 in both the decimal and vigesimal (based on twenties) ways of counting. Decimal forms of counting started around the year 2000 so it’s helpful for students to be familiar with both forms of counting. We will also continue to practice and develop conversation skills..
